Attending The Collective 2017
Two weeks ago, I (Mandy) had the opportunity to attend an event called The Collective 2017. The event is hosted by LAB Mpls. It is a collaborative effort by local businesses and handmade craftsman (and women).
I had read their website and follow both the event and LAB on social media. I was still blown away by the event itself.
About The Founders
Jessica Moriarty and Mollie Windmiller are the co-founders of LAB and they have managed to create an event bursting with creativity and energy that is hard to describe.
Walking into the event was an experience in that the street sign and entryway featured an elaborate creative balloon display created in partnership with Girl Friday. Girl Friday is a creative display, decor and installation company that I highly admire.
Since I was there to photograph The Collective in the afternoon for the second half of the day, I had the pleasure of browsing the marketplace of local vendors selling local and hand-made goods. As I browsed the aisles of local Minneapolis artisans’ goods, my only thought was how I wish I had brought a pocket full of cash to buy everything.
The Collective 2017’s Speaker Sessions
In addition to the multi-room marketplace at Loring Social, the LAB held speaker sessions on the hour in their space upstairs. I was able to listen (and photograph) Marco Zappia of Bittercube Bitters talk to the group about the industry of craft cocktails. I also head the pleasure of attending Ashley Mary’s talk about the art of being creative and making things, as well as the last session of the day by Kate O’Hara from Fay & Belle Rugs.
I can’t say enough wonderful things about experiencing The Collective 2017 for the first time. I highly recommend checking out members that exhibited in the marketplace. You can see a full list of those businesses here: https://www.labmpls.com/collective-members.
LAB also hosts regular creative workshops where you can learn everything from calligraphy to bouquet making and craft cocktail instruction. For more information on their LAB events, check https://www.labmpls.com and click on “LABS” in the top link bar.
